What is Duolingo marketplace?

Duolingo family is a marketplace for securely sharing family subscriptions, especially Duolingo Family. It allows family plan owners to offer vacant spots and other users to purchase these slots at a discounted price.

How do listings work?

For sellers:

  • Enter the number of available slots (1-5)
  • Enter the total amount you want to earn for the remaining period
  • The system will automatically calculate monthly price per slot
  • After publishing you cannot change slots count or price
  • You can only pause or deactivate a listing

For buyers:

  • You see a clear monthly price per slot
  • You pay upfront for the whole remaining period
  • Price does not change during subscription
  • We automatically verify your access to the service

How is monthly price calculated?

Monthly price per slot = (Total amount + Service fee) / Months / Slots

Example:

  • Total amount: 500 CZK
  • Service fee (10%): 50 CZK
  • Months left: 11
  • Slots count: 5
  • Result: 10 CZK/slot/month

How does Escrow work?

All payments go through a secure escrow system:

  1. Buyer pays the whole amount upfront
  2. Money is held in escrow
  3. A scraper verifies that you have an active membership
  4. After 30 days + successful check, part of the money is released to the seller
  5. If there is an issue, money is returned to the buyer

How is membership verified?

The automatic scraper checks your public Duolingo profile:

  • After payment: every 2 hours until you are added
  • During an active month: 2Γ— weekly
  • Before payout: 24 hours before cycle end
  • On demand: You can trigger a manual check

⚠️ Important:

Your Duolingo profile must be public, otherwise we cannot verify membership!

What is Trust Score?

Trust Score is a user trust rating:

  • Starting score: 100 points
  • +10 points for each completed monthly cycle
  • +50 points for completing the whole period
  • -200 points for a lost dispute

Higher Trust Score = more trustworthy seller. You can sort listings by this score.

How do payouts work?

For sellers:

  1. After each 30-day cycle money is released from escrow to your wallet
  2. When you have at least 200 CZK in your wallet you can request a payout
  3. Before first payout you must pass Stripe onboarding (provide bank account)
  4. Payout is processed via Stripe (secure, we don't store your bank details)
  5. Payout fee: 30 CZK

What to do in case of a problem?

If you have an issue with your order:

  • Click 'Report issue' on the order
  • You can trigger a manual status verification
  • If the scraper confirms the service is unavailable, the dispute is automatically validated
  • Admin will review the case and decide on a refund
  • Money is returned to your wallet as credit

FAQ

Can I change price after publishing?

No. Slots count, total amount and derived monthly price are fixed after publishing.

What if the seller doesn't add me to Duolingo Family?

The order is marked as problematic and you can report a dispute. After verification, funds are returned to your wallet as credit.

Are my bank details safe?

Yes. We never store your bank details. Everything is processed via Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified.
